Ninja Bottle
Device to Share Your Happiness

The Ninja Bottle is a collaborative project between New York City-based Tomorrow Lab and Sydney Australia-based technology company, Ninja Blocks. The Ninja Bottle is a fun device for 'Sharing Happiness'. The bottle utilizes the NinjaBlocks Platform to enable wireless communication from anyone, anywhere, directly to your bottle. Friends can push short messages to your bottle such as: "Goooooal!" , "Congrats!" , "How Are You?"

01 — Design Concept

The bottle was custom built in frosted clear light green plastic to mimic the familiar shape of a regular glass beverage with a latching mechanism to hold the electronics. The LED stack fits neatly inside with the PCBs to create the lighting pattern to convey the words sent to you. There is a battery holster inside the bottle to maintain the power required to communicate with the XBee to the LEDs.

02 — Electrical Engineering

The device consists of a custom battery-powered circuit stack developed by Tomorrow Lab. Each layer on the circuit stack uses a MAX7219 LED matrix driver to drive the LEDs along the periphery of each disk. The entire stack is driven by one XBee wireless radio module and a rechargeable LiPo battery. We designed the round LED boards to daisy-chain, driven from an XBee receiving Serially-communicated phrases.
